Hatching a 14-point plan to escape his mother’s house and take up residence in New York.
You’ve watched enough movies this weekend to recover some, but not fully. You’re up for a little fun this fine Sunday afternoon, but don’t want to start the week feeling like the walking dead. We have you covered! Check out these mellow spots to treat yourself before a long week.
5. Brunch at Le Diplomate
Le Diplomate brought their french cuisine mastery to the American brunch scene to incredible effect. We’re talking upscale: King crab legs and foie gras parfaits are the stars of the menu. However, you can experience the same classy french bistro ambiance here over yogurt and pancakes. Mimosas don’t make an appearance on the menu but are available upon request. It’s worth getting a reservation or heading over a little earlier as the food draws a larger crowd than the home fries and André offered elsewhere.
4. Drinks and Grub at Right Proper Brewery
Head to Right Proper Brewing Company’s Shaw Brewpub for craft beer and casual American fare “with a nod to Southern comfort”. We can confirm the following: 1. The beer is excellent 2. You will not be kicked out for wearing sweatpants and a hoodie.
3. Catch a Flick at E Street Cinema
This old school theater hasn’t jumped on the bandwagon with electronic reclining plush couches and IMAX offerings, but what it lacks in new age tech it makes up for in charm (and a full bar). Catch an indie, foreign, or cult classic film with a hot dog and some popcorn. No need to impress the laid back clientele, so keep on the cozies you were rocking on the couch. Perfect for getting out and doing something...without having to do anything.
2. Rock Climbing at Earth Treks in Crystal City
The best way to beat the Sunday Scaries is a trip up a chalked-coated artificial rock face. No really, people outside of Richmond are also starting to see the appeal of scaling a grown up jungle gym; and the supportive, adventurous community behind it is exploding. Bring a friend or significant other and enjoy goofing off for your first day. Maybe you’ll even break a little sweat. You too might catch the bug when you see a lil’ kid dancing up a route three times harder than the one you’re falling on!
1. The National Zoo
Head to the national zoo and hang out with 1,500 animals across 300 different species. It doesn’t matter whether you haven’t been before or haven’t since your 3rd grade class field trip; take the time this Sunday to sit on a bench and take in our world’s living history. Always free, let the Smithsonian’s gentle caretakers share fauna both cute and majestic.
